"THE FAMILY MEAL"

When my children were young, we sat down at the dinner table each evening to have our family dinner.  It was a different meal every night.  I used to get inventive with the left overs, so they would not be like left overs.  You know, like taking left over chicken and putting it into a casserole.  But, I would just throw a bunch of things together and cross my fingers.  It was sometimes just pot luck depending on what was available and how well it mixed together.  That was back in the day when I could take $100.00 to the super market and buy enough groceries for two weeks to feed five.  Now, I barely cover the bottom of my shopping cart for that amount just to feed me.

Times have surely changed that is for sure.  Around my house now, you grab a plate and pick your corner.  To each his own.  I do miss the family mealtime.  It seems like nothing replaces it.  I know a lot of families now that are just on the go so much that mealtime is  a grab it as you go.  But, for the times you can plan a real family dinner, unless you are like me, you may need a good cookbook.  I have even tried them at times.  Eccentric Thrifter has a very good selection of cookbooks available for whatever your tastes may be.  I found this really great one on  MEXICAN Healthy Ways With a Favorite Cuisine Jane Milton CookbookMEXICAN .  Most everyone likes Mexican food cooked American Style.  We were always fans of Italian Foods also.  I found this really neat one on
Italian Foods.  WEIGHT WATCHERS QUICK ITALIAN FAVORITES Cookbook 2006  It is for weight watchers, but most American's do watch their weight, but I am not one of them.  Eccentric Thrifter  has 26 cookbooks to chose from, so you are sure to find something that you like.  And for those of you that like to settle down with a good book to read after dinner, our ESN community has a variety of sellers that have a wide range of books for you to read.  Take a minute and stop by.  You just might find that good book you have been looking for.

  1. Great post and great choices. I too have lots of cookbooks that I use once in awhile, but as you said it seems family mealtime is a thing of the past, too bad....

  2. Thanks for featuring my books in your post! This was a great look back at the good ol' days. Too bad kids these days don't know what it's like to sit down and share their day over a nice home-cooked meal.

    1. You are so welcome. It was my pleasure. Nothing to me beats a home cooked meal. But unfortunately the world today is on the fast track and that most of the time means fast foods. Thanks for stopping by.

  3. Family meals don't happen as much as they used to. However, we still enjoy them.
