"TWINKLE, TWINKLE LITTLE STAR"

When my children were infants, I would take them outside just after dark and we would gaze into the sky as I sung to them Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.  It was a song that I grew up with and passed on to my children.    Today, I thought of this again and begin to wonder about the origin of the song.  So checking with Wikipedia I found this definition.

Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" is a popular English lullaby. The lyrics are from an early 19th-century English poem, "The Star" by Jane Taylor. The poem, which is in couplet form, was first published in 1806 in Rhymes for the Nursery, a collection of poems by Taylor and her sister Ann. It is sung to the tune of the French melody "Ah! vous dirai-je, Maman", which was published in 1761 and later arranged by Mozart for a famous set of variations.  English lyrics have five stanzas, although only the first is widely known.  I never knew the complete song, so I would like to share all of the other four stanzas with you.

Like a diamond in the sky.

When the blazing sun is gone,
When he nothing shines upon,
Then you show your little light,

I thought this was worth sharing.  It is just so cute.  One thing I learned when my girls were little, is that they associated stars with everything that was magical.  It was no different when it came to Unicorns.  I think it stems from the fact that they considered Unicorns as a heavenly creation.  My store, "Nancy's Doll Closet", has a set of PJ's for sale that feature both of these.
