PIRATES/BUCCANEERS-HISTORICAL CLOTHING FOR AMERICAN GIRL 18 INCH DOLLS

About 1630, some Frenchmen who were driven away from the island of Hispaniola fled to nearby Tortuga.  The Spaniards tried to drive them out of Tortuga, but the buccaneers were joined by many other French, Dutch, and English and turned to piracy against the Spanish shipping, generally using small craft to attack galleons in the vicinity of the Windward Passage.  Finally they became so strong that they even sailed to the mainland of Spanish American and sacked cities.  This info is provided by Wikipedia.

The buccaneers were pirates who attacked Spanish shipping in the Caribbean Sea during the 17th century.  The term buccaneer is now used generally as a synonym for pirate.  Originally, buccaneer crew were larger, more apt to attack coastal cities, and more localized to the Caribbean than later pirate crews who sailed to the Indian Ocean on the Pirate Round in the late 17th century.

The only pirate I can remember from my childhood is "Sir Frances Drake".  I watched a movie centered around him when I was in my preteens.  I have been fascinated with them since.  In fact, I love all swashbuckling movies such as the Pirates of the Caribbean, 3 Musketeers, etc.

This was the inspiration for my latest creation.  I spent this past week researching, designing, and sewing to come up with my version of the perfect Pirate/Buccaneer outfit.  I did borrow and inspiration from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies and made a headdress similar to the one for Jack Sparrow and decided on a cavalier styled hat instead of the basic pirate hat.  I think the Cavalier hats are more appealing.  To me, anyway.

This outfit took so long to make, I was unable to get started on my Red Riding Hood outfit, so that is my next project.

Thanks for stopping by.  Let me know what you think about my creation.  Comments are always welcome.  No advertising please.
