"Labor Day"

The first Monday of each September is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of the American Workers.  The first Labor Day was celebrated on Tuesday September 5th, 1882 in NY city.  The first Monday in September was adopted in 1884.  By 1894, 30 states had adopted the holiday.  On June 28th of 1894, Congress passed an act making the first Monday in September of each year a legal Holiday in DC and its territories.

Something I did not know is that Labor Day has become an important sales date to retailers, second only to black Friday.  We all know about black Friday.  It may be the most shopped day of the year, but it is the worse day of the year to shop.  I cannot count the times I have almost been knocked to the floor.  Anyway, though Labor Day is honoring the "American Worker"  most of America has to work that day, because they work in a retail establishments of some kind.

Labor Day has come to be celebrated by most American's as the symbolic end of the summer.  In high society, Labor Day is the last day of the year it is fashionable to wear the color White.  Who cares.  I wear white whenever I get ready to.  But, I have never been one to keep up with the fashions.
Another type of celebration for Labor day is the gathering of the family for the traditional family reunion.

But, for the sports lovers Labor day marks the official beginning of the NFL and College football season, with the NFL traditionally playing their first game the Thursday following Labor Day.  American Girl shows her teams spirit for the NFL by wearing her game day set for the "Dallas Cowboys" which can be purchased from "Nancy's Doll Closet"
