The first Monday of each September is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of the American Workers. The first Labor Day was celebrated on Tuesday September 5th, 1882 in NY city. The first Monday in September was adopted in 1884. By 1894, 30 states had adopted the holiday. On June 28th of 1894, Congress passed an act making the first Monday in September of each year a legal Holiday in DC and its territories.
Labor Day has come to be celebrated by most American's as the symbolic end of the summer. In high society, Labor Day is the last day of the year it is fashionable to wear the color White. Who cares. I wear white whenever I get ready to. But, I have never been one to keep up with the fashions.
Another type of celebration for Labor day is the gathering of the family for the traditional family reunion.
To kick off the season for the University of Missouri football team, American Girl Julie has a game day dress featuring the Mizzou team.
"Mizzou game day dress" You can find both of these dresses and many others at "Nancy's Doll Closet". Thanks for stopping by to read my blog. Have a safe and delightful Labor Day.
